The West Wing comparison is very apt. The American show, as watchable as it was, ultimately looks juvenile against something like The Thick of It. The "bad" language is crucial to it, of course. Can you imagine the language (lacking the wit) in any room with President Bush in it?

Accordingly, this scene was based on real events. I think he said so on Jonathan Ross or Richard and Judy, or something like that.Apparently Iannucci didn't even think of it, it was advised by the 'consultation-minister' bloke, and he loved it.Well, apparently.
